The Chest

A human life is shaped by countless emotions — joy, conflict, hope, longing, and inspiration. The chest becomes a metaphor for life itself. Its exterior holds the weight of lived experience — fragments of everyday life expressed through Molela terracotta, capturing the many emotions and situations that define our outward journey. In contrast, the interior reveals a more intimate layer. A rustic mirror replaces narrative, inviting a direct encounter with the self.

The craft engages Molela terracotta from Molela village in Rajasthan — hand-moulded, low-relief carved, and fired forms that have historically depicted local deities, folklore, and everyday life. Here, those narratives are recontextualised: moved from fixed, site-bound surfaces onto a lived, movable object.
